about meeeeee :3

as of 2023, i am 19 years old. my hobbies include digital art, video games, music, and picking up many smaller hobbies i usually drop within a month or two. i also have an affinity for researching topics of personal interest.

from a young age, i've found myself enamoured with fictonal characters and their worlds. i often wish i didn't live in this reality. this passion has inspired many of my artisitc works, and now this website.

i like to think i'm a lighthearted, yet contemplative person, although i'm not always the best at expressing myself. i have autism and adhd, and those probably impact my personality in some way.

about this site

while i wasn't old enough to experience the heyday of personal websites, i've become increasingly intrigued with them in my late teen years.

i've always wanted my own space to talk about and do whatever i want, and online seems to be a good place for that. it's digital, so it's intangible and therefore, enduring and unable to be destroyed (unless servers go down ooopsss). although, due to my private nature and desire for creative freedom, i've never cared for social media, so i wasn't eager to make any accounts.

at some point as early as 2021, but likely later, i discovered neocities. i was amazed by the websites i saw, and they reignited my dormant dream of having a personal website.

that dream first came into existence as a form of my "own space" as i mentioned above. the first time i imagined a personal website was when i watched my mother build a business website for one of her clients. i didn't even know what html or css was- no way i could've put something together on my own then.

the idea of having such control over my own space really appeals to me- i want a combination of a blog of sorts, and hidden pages that feel like a game to find. someplace to infuse my whimsical spirit into, someplace to outlast me.

so, i strengthened my limited html knowledge, and on july 15th, 2023, i finally created my own website, PIPEDREAMZ!

why "pipedreamz"?

first of all, it's PIPEDREAMZ, all caps like MF DOOM.

and well, "pipedreams" with an s was taken. i think it sounds cooler with a z at the end, anyway.

to begin- i consider myself a dreamer. i've always had a vivid imagination and daydreamed often. regularly, i come up with neat ideas that i never make into reality, leaving them stuck as just dreams.

moreover, the "pipe" part reminds me of the warp pipes from mario games. i like it because the mario series is my special interest!

i'd also like to briefly mention my love for the mario & luigi rpg series- as it has inspired various bits of this site. hell, my entire sitemap is based on the chakroads from bowser's inside story. rest in peace, alphadream.

lastly, a "pipe dream" is defined as an "unattainable or fanciful hope or plan". like i mentioned before, i often don't pursue my dreams, since they feel impossible at times. having a personal website is one i've had since i was little. i remember it being nothing more than a passing thought as i'd watch my mother design websites, but my ambition grew as i became older and explored the internet more.

and now, i'm making one of my own pipe dreams happen.

also! turns out there's a smoke shop in ontario also called pipedreamz with a z, so if that's what you're looking for... sorry, this isn't it :p
